Everyone needs a makeshift ‘Carrie’ dress

No, I’m not talking about the pigs-blood soaked, prom dress Carrie, I’m talking about the column-writing, tutu wearing Carrie.

This “dress” is actually a skirt and I’ve blogged about it here. One of the things I really like about myself is being pixie height. Having maxi skirts means I can make a makeshift dress out of one, and this is what I did with this outfit.

A bunch of us went out last night for an all ladies dinner night. It was a dressy affair so wanted to make an impression with something fab, and this moment of genius hit me. I belted the skirt to give it shape – you all know how much I love belting my dresses, and it was definitely needed here. The affect is great and the belt gave the bottom the volume it needed to work; because of this, I kept the rest of the outfit really simple:

Skirt (Dress): Joy
Belt: Dorothy Perkins
Shrug: eBay
Tights: Boots
Shoes: Dorothy Perkins

There were 7 of us in total and we headed to the Lebanese restaurant, Noura. It was a fun, giggle fest with lots of great food. Here a a few random pics:

Success

In the blogger world, success is often in reference to money or exposure. Often these two things go hand-in-hand, in that the more exposure you get the more you are in a position to ask to be paid for your work/ name/ face, etc. Blogging has become a business for many and an aspiration to even more, but are we being realistic?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great to have ambition and to work and strive for a goal or goals, but I also think it's important to be realistic with those goals. There are so many factors that come into trying to make a blog a business. For example, bloggers whom have been able to make their blog their sole source of income are often white, slim/ slim passing, a small fat, able-bodied, cis gendered, and/ or with euro-centric beauty. There are of course other examples that correlate, but that's the starting point. Not every blogger is going to fall into that blueprint, nor should we, but unfortunately we have not yet reached a point where said…
